Lanterns

Lanterns are one of the oldest form of purpose build lighting and are mentioned in literature as early as 380 BC. By lantern is meant a sort of container with glass sides and metal frame. Originally this was one of the only portable light devices where candles could be protected from blowing out. As with any other lighting, lanterns varied great deal from very simple for the poor to opulent for the privileged living in stately homes. Mass production lowered the cost of lanterns unfortunately in the expense of quality.
